Telephone Cove

The road to Telephone Cove

The road to Telephone Cove

I have been wanting to share more of my life on the road and some of my favorite spots we have been to. I get asked a lot “what is your favorite place you have been to?'“ and I honestly don’t know that answer. I have seen and experienced so much on the road I couldn’t name my favorite. So I want to write about a few places that come to mind when someone asks me that question. I will make a new post for each location and post at least one a week. I am going to start with Telephone Cove. Telephone Cove is in Laughlin, Nevada. It is a free camp spot on Lake Mead. The only way I have gone here is coming up from Arizona. As soon as you cross the state line from Arizona to Nevada you go up a fairly steep hill, the bus goes up this hill so slow up! About halfway up the hill you turn off onto a sandy/dirt road and start driving down the hill. The drive is a few miles into the desert and back down the hill. The road is pretty solid although the sand can make it slippery. Some of the hills are pretty bumpy and steep. The bus is 34 feet long and can make it in just fine. Once you get to the bottom of the hill you will see the lake. You can park anywhere here for free, for up to 7 days! The lake has a few huge dumpsters for trash and four toilets.

We stayed for the entire week. When we first got there we had almost the entire place to ourselves. There was just a few other campers and travelers that showed up, but everyone had plenty of space between each other. It was so peaceful. In the mornings a bunch of ducks would swim along the shore past everyone camping. We would spend our days walking along the beach and exploring around area. We would walk around the lake and find little private beaches to hang out and relax on. And when it wasn’t to windy we would spend our nights by a fire.

There is little cell phone reception. I have T-Mobile and Missy has Verizon. She had little service and it wasn’t very strong, I had nothing. It was nice spending time disconnected for a little bit. Using our phones just for the camera.

Telephone Cove is an amazing place to camp. Its on a lake with bathrooms and dumpsters on site and to top it all off its FREE. As a traveler it’ a hard place to top. If you are traveling near Laughlin, Nevada I highly recommend you stop here for a few nights. I promise it will not disappoint.
